Bilingual (French-English) Research Project Officer

The role

A bilingual (French-English) project administrator (Grade I, 0.2) is required to assist a funded 5-year ERC (European Research Council) research project in the Faculty of Arts, Law and Social Sciences. This role is open on a fixed term basis until February 2025 and may be extended if further funding can be secured. The administrator will work with the principal investigator (PI) to support the project team, which includes collaborators and three Research Associates working in Senegal, Côte d`Ivoire, Benin and Cameroon. The aim of the project is to explore the creative representations and lived experiences of university life across four multilingual, historically francophone, case studies (Université Cheikh Anta Diop, Université Félix Houphouët Boigny, Université Abomey-Calavi, Université Yaoundé I) in order reflect on the role of these contested institutions in contemporary society.

What will you be doing?

The project is designed to be highly collaborative with activities involving student co-researchers, building an online database, co-authored publications and co-produced research events. The project administrator will liaise with the PI, RAs and international collaborators based at each institution. They will plan the organisation of workshops, meetings and events (including booking travel and visas). They will collate, organise, monitor and manage research data and financial information according to ERC ethics and financial reporting guidelines. They will evaluate and procure resources and liaise with suppliers. They will support the online resources repository / website development, in liaison with the PI (who will advise on ethics guidelines) and keep website content updated, using social media to disseminate news and publications arising from the project as appropriate. They will undertake some translation tasks from English to French (e.g. quarterly reports to the project advisory board; website content), and there may be scope to expand this dimension of the role in later years of the project.

You should apply if

We are looking for an excellent, bilingual (French-English), administrator who takes initiative and personal responsibility for their work, is highly motivated and an excellent communicator, and who can use their experience and judgment to resolve issues (especially working between UK HE contexts and the under-resourced HE contexts in sub-Saharan Africa).
