ROLE SUMMARY:

Ivy House are seeking to appoint an appropriately qualified and experienced Part time MFL French Teacher to teach French and to take a lead role in the school's MFL provision. The individual will be responsible for the quality of the MFL provision throughout the school, and for teaching girls and boys from Nursery to Year 6. They will be an ambitious individual who can demonstrate an ability to inspire, lead and manage staff. They will work closely with the SLT to develop this key area of school life.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspire children, teachers and parents
  • Instil a love of the richness and diversity of learning a modern foreign language
  • Lead the subject with vision and flair
  • Keep up to date with new teaching styles and innovations in education including statutory requirements of the EYFS, National Curriculum and the needs of the 11+ curriculum, as appropriate
  • Regularly review and upgrade the French curriculum, with reference to the EYFS, National Curriculum, 11+ syllabus and other initiatives, where appropriate
  • Develop links with the MFL departments at other schools within the Foundation to ensure continual developments and sharing of best practice
  • Teach across the full primary age range (2 to 11 years old), ensuring that lessons are differentiated to embrace all ability levels
  • Monitor the teaching of pupils with additional needs & those of high ability and liaise with the SENDcO, where appropriate
  • Provide an extended curriculum for children who are already fluent in the target language
  • Assess, record and report pupil progress, socially and academically, according to the school policy
  • Ensure full use of audio/visual and I.T. resources to enrich the MFL curriculum including contributing to the school's website and social media posts
  • Invite guest speakers to enrich and diversify the curriculum
  • Take responsibility for managing the MFL budget for books and educational resources
  • Enter pupils in competitions and festivals, as appropriate
  • Promote French through a range of extracurricular activities, for example, organising/ supporting subject weeks
  • Make provision for EYFS and self-initiated learning and make regular contributions to all EYFS profiles
  • Prepare for and attend parent consultation evenings and contributing to reports as required
  • Fulfil other reasonable duties as directed by the Head and or Deputy Head


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Qualifications and Skills
  • Relevant degree
  • Qualified teacher status/ successful completion of PGCE
  • Relevant teaching experience preferably in the prep/primary environment
  • A proven track record of strong organisational skills
  • A proven ability to work in a team Experience and Knowledge
  • Excellent subject knowledge of French at primary level
  • An ability to promote the subject within the school, ensuring that it caters for the learning requirements of each individual child
  • An up to date knowledge of best practice in terms of assessment of pupil progress in Modern Foreign Languages
  • A current and growing knowledge of resources available to this area of responsibility The confidence to use ICT effectively in teaching and learning
  • An effective communicator, both in written and oral form
  • A commitment to the personal development of pupils, and to the protection and safeguarding of children
  • A true professional who maintains appropriate levels of personal presentation and conduct at all times
  • An outstanding outlook towards the pastoral care of children
  • A preparedness to promote the department, making sure it caters for the learning requirements of our school
  • Well organised, with good time management skills, and a high level of computer literacy A willingness to further your own professional skills, knowledge and abilities
