French Teacher

Job purpose:

With a strong background in education, being a professional school teacher requires a person with both subject content knowledge (SCK), pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) and student support and guidance on academic improvement. A professional teacher ought to have abilities to design and implement a suitable scheme of work and a lesson plan. These will serve the purpose of providing teachers with a thinking pathway throughout the academic year. Basically, a scheme of work and lesson plan allows a teacher to achieve goals and objectives, manage time, effort and resources efficiently.

Job summary:

To ensure a safe learning environment for the students and that they perform well in their assigned subjects. The environment should be highly structured and relational in order for students to flourish academically, physically, and emotionally.

Roles, duties and responsibilities:

1. Prepare a scheme of work and lesson plans for the subject(s) he/she teaches adhering to REB and LFHS standards and format accordingly.
2. use teaching strategies that keep students engaged through effective teaching methods, lively student presentations, projects and practical work in line with the curriculum and syllabus.
3. help students set goals and work with the class to help them attain these goals in the subject they teach.
4. Participate in school assemblies, meetings and other school events.
5. Participate in teaching training sessions and stay up to date with current teaching methods, practices and any new knowledge in their teaching field.
6. Manage students' behaviour in the classroom and on school premises, and apply appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehavior Using DNA.
7. Keep an organized and orderly classroom that promotes creativity and learning.
8. Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate and report students' progress.
9. Establish and maintain good working relationship with students and ensure inclusiveness in the classroom.
10. Select and use a range of different learning resources and equipment, including use of technology in the classroom.
11. Participate in and organize academic activities outside the classroom, such as field trips, seminars, language day, science day etc.
12. Maintain records of class attendance and recording student academic progress.
13. Advise and follow up on how to make individual low performing students perform better.
14. Actively participate in analysis of students' performance in their subject area and give professional feedback to students.
15. Implement effective student management consistent with the school's strategic plan emanating from the school philosophy.
16. Interact with students and offer advice regarding social and academic aspects.
17. Assist low performing learners either in groups or one by one.
18. Put into proper use all the school materials (be accountable)
19. Use DNA in different pedagogic issues:

• Between students
• Between teachers
• Between students and teachers

Other relevant duties:

1. Homeroom Teachers

• Have good knowledge of her/his learners and together with the house mother, be able to guide learners on how to progress academically (teacher-parent conference)
• Regularly meet with her/his class in order to listen to the needs of students and give advice

1. Extra-curricular coordination:

• Monitor STAR time, ensure students are in the right places and attendance is taken.
• Plan and coordinate extra classes activities for students who need extra support in some subjects.
• Offer support to learners (Remedial classes) in some content areas which were not covered.
• Initiate special activities in their subject area that are not part of daily instructions as per the syllabus and curriculum.
• Perform other professional activities as requested by her/his supervisor when needed.

Skills and experience requirements:

• University Degree (A0) in French subject;
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PPT etc.
• Able to motivate and mentor others;
• Knowledge of Rwanda's education system and requirements.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in teaching in a recognized secondary school, preferably A level
• Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills in French and English Language
• Demonstrated effectiveness in working with students and fellow teachers as well.
• Better understanding of LFHS and ASYV philosophy and its core values.
• Cooperative and self-motivated
