About bp

bp is a global company that offers a world of opportunities for professionals as well as those starting out in their career. We're guided by our purpose and ambition to become a net zero company by 2050 or sooner, and help the world get there too.

What does this mean for you? It means you can expect purposeful work, world-class training and the flexibility to realize your full potential. Not to mention the chance to join a company committed to delivering more sustainable energy for all. Ready to crack on? Your perfect job match awaits.

Your Early Careers Program

One Engineering is an early careers programme designed to create a pipeline of diverse professional engineers who are high-performers, have broad discipline experience, a transferable skills-set, leading through the energy transition, and solving the most complex problems of today and of the future. Early career discipline engineers will build their experience through challenging development assignments, develop a toolkit of transferable skills for the future, and have a dedicated network of support to help them succeed.

Early Careers Experience at bp

During the program you'll have the opportunity to complete 2 or 3 rotations designed to give you breadth of experience across your chosen business area whilst also supporting you to build technical depth. These rotations will be complemented by a technical development pathway for your discipline, which outlines the technical competencies you are working towards. Alongside this you'll also complete our Ignite training modules which will support you to build your interpersonal skills.

Throughout the program you'll have a dedicated support network to provide guidance on the program and advice on career development. You'll also be a key part of the bp early careers community, with events, socials and the opportunity to network with other early careers from across bp.

Role and Responsibilities

At bp, our Mechanical Engineers play a vital role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our operations. Your specific role will be shaped by your skills and the needs of the business, but your core duties will include:

  • Ensuring Safe and Reliable Operations: Delivering the integrity of plant operations throughout the asset's lifecycle while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
  • Maintaining Equipment Integrity: Preventing the release of hydrocarbons and hazardous fluids by upholding the highest standards of mechanical integrity.
  • Maximizing Uptime: Developing and implementing maintenance programs to maximize equipment availability and performance.
  • Project Delivery: Participating in projects to ensure they meet quality, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Technical Expertise: Providing specialist advice on mechanical engineering, including the adoption of new technologies.
  • Collaboration: Building strong relationships within bp and with external partners, collaborating across functions, segments, and teams to deliver excellence.
  • Performance & Safety: Supporting your team in maintaining high performance and demonstrating dedication to safety, aligned with bp's core values.

Our mechanical engineers support operations and projects globally, working in diverse teams. They are involved in selecting, specifying, and constructing mechanical equipment and systems, whether to build new facilities or modify existing assets. In operations, they develop and implement maintenance programs, monitor equipment condition and performance, and investigate operational challenges.

There are also specialized roles where engineers provide technical expertise, advising on specific aspects of mechanical engineering, including new technologies. They work with a wide range of mechanical equipment, from compressors, pumps, and turbines to heaters, valves, vessels, and piping, covering all aspects of mechanical design. At bp we uphold the highest standards of mechanical integrity by working with cutting-edge technology and some of the brightest minds in the industry.

Requirements

To apply for this role, you'll need to be in your final year of study or have completed a master's degree (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering, aeronautical, aerospace, automotive or Renewable Energy Engineering.

You can check if your degree is accredited using the provided links. If your degree isn't listed but you know it's accredited, you can still apply, and bp will confirm it for you.
