HOD MFL / Teacher of French (maternity leave cover) at St Mary's School

About this Role

St Mary's School is seeking a Teacher of French to work inour MFL Department and to cover the maternity leave for the HoD. Therefore, forthe right candidate, there may be an opportunity to take on the lead role inthe MFL Department. You will join a team of committed, enthusiastic Teacherswho are passionate about the importance of Language Learning. There are currently three subject areas,French and Spanish, both of which are offered to A Level.

All students in KeyStage 3 study French and in Year 8 also study Spanish. French and Spanish are offered as options atGCSE, with some students choosing to study both. We have a good proportion ofdual linguists and an increasing number of students are opting to continuelanguages at A level, some of whom go on to read Modern Languages atUniversity. We currently follow Edexcel GCSE and A level courses in all threelanguages. Our students have a proventrack record of success at GCSE and A level, with many returning to schoolafter university to encourage students to study these subjects.

The departmentorganises trips to France and Spain as well as taking students to conferencesand language events in London. We endeavour to ensure that at least part of thetrips takes place in term time. All staff in the department are expected totake part in these trips. A levelstudents are strongly encouraged to complete work experience abroad organisedvia http://workexperienceabroad.co.uk/. The department is well resourced with dedicatedclassrooms and good ICT facilities. Language clubs are held in each language, asuccessful pen friend system is in place and the department celebrates EuropeanDay of Languages each year with a variety of activities.

The successfulcandidate must be able to teach French up to and including A Level. You should have stamina, good humour and beable to demonstrate strong organisational skills. Good ICT skills are essentialand candidates should be aware that technology is used to enhance learningthroughout the curriculum. Staff play a crucial part in the marketing of theschool and attend all Open events, as well as our annual evening Carol Servicein December and Prize Giving in July. Staff participation in the co-curricular life of the school is arequirement, developing relationships with students and their parents andensuring a breadth of opportunities for our students.
