Teacher of French- Training Opportunity at Hurstpierpoint College

Date de publication 15.09.2026

About this Role

Are you interested in a career in Teaching? Teach Hurst gives you the opportunity to get straight into the classroom and earn a salary whilst training to teach on-site at Hurstpierpoint College, one of Britain's most successful independent schools.

We are now recruiting for January 2027.

Working at Hurst

Hurst is one of Britain's leading independent schools, offering a vibrant and supportive environment for both pupils and staff. With almost 1,300 pupils across our Senior and Prep Schools, we combine academic ambition with a strong sense of community and a rich co-curricular programme.

Hurst is a place of genuine momentum. From the classroom to the sports field, and the theatre to the boarding house, life here is rich, varied, and relentlessly rewarding.

Ours is a community that sets its sights on excellence - not as a destination, but as a daily habit. The people who thrive here are those who bring the same ambition, resilience, and commitment that we ask of our pupils.

We don't just teach; we coach, mentor, direct, lead, and inspire, often all in the same day! The role you play here extends far beyond your core responsibilities, and that's precisely what makes it so fulfilling. If you're someone who is energised by variety, motivated by challenge, and genuinely excited by the opportunity to shape young people both inside and outside the classroom then you'll feel right at home.

You'll enjoy working in a stunning rural setting while remaining well-connected. We're just 20 minutes from the city and beaches of Brighton & Hove, and London is under an hour away by train. We also offer a vast range of staff benefits, including free onsite accommodation, free meals during term time, use of our exceptional sports facilities, access to wellbeing initiatives, and extensive opportunities for professional development.

This isn't just a job. It's a commitment to something bigger. For the right person, there is nowhere more exciting to be.

What's on offer:

A competitive starting salary from day one of £32,600, increasing as you progress through the programme.

No fees! We will offer you a unique programme of fully funded teacher training including sponsorship of PGCE and Early Career Teachers (ECT) training.

Free on-site accommodation at our impressive Sussex campus, twenty minutes from the city of Brighton and within easy reach of London by local rail links.

Other benefits include free meals during term time, and access to a wide range of sports and leisure opportunities as part of our Co-curricular programme.

On completion of the Teach Hurst programme, many continue their career at Hurst into positions of responsibility, such as Head of Department or Head of Year, with pay increases to match.

Why Teach Hurst?

" I chose Teach Hurst over a traditional PGCE route as I wanted to be in the classroom from day one. Hurst life is very busy, but I love the variety: for me this has involved teaching two subjects to students across a range of ages, running badminton and tennis sessions, working in a boarding house and more. I feel like I have learnt a huge amount in a short space of time and developed both personally and as a professional, the mentorship and guidance have been excellent. "

"This is a real community - kind, enthusiastic students, and a wonderful staff body which has always been incredibly welcoming"

Mr Xiao Ma, Head of A-level Further Maths

In essence, the programme consists of:

Year 1: Building classroom experience, knowledge and pedagogy through observation and class teaching on a reduced timetable.

Year 2: A fully funded, in-school, PGCE course provided by Buckingham University. Increased teaching load and further responsibility.

On completion of Year 2 you will gain QTS (qualified teacher status) and progress onto the Early Teacher Career Framework and the Hurst qualified teacher scale with reflective salary increase. Throughout the ECT period you will continue to be mentored and given the opportunity to take on roles of responsibility and leadership across the college.

What are we looking for:

Talented and enthusiastic French graduates who can demonstrate a passion for working with children.

One key to our success as a school is excellent staff. We value all our teachers and whether you join us straight from university, or after an initial career in another area of work, we believe every teacher's experience and background are important.

Teach Hurst is a highly desirable teacher training programme and we receive a large number of applicants each year. If you are excited by this opportunity we advise you to apply as soon as possible.

Applications will be considered as they are received, and the recruitment process will close once outstanding candidates are identified.

Hurstpierpoint College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including an online presence and adverse media review, checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service
