The Purpose of the Role The successful applicant will provide seminar teaching, lectures and supervision in key areas of Business French (for example report writing, analysis of case studies, current affairs, social and political business contexts, grammar, translation and comprehension) in the Department of French in the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies. Contact hours will comprise a maximum of 8-10 hours per week in each of the two twelve-week semesters (there is a Reading Week in Week 7). Duties will also include the setting and marking of assignments and examinations, the development (where relevant) of innovative teaching materials, the coordination of modules, and general administrative tasks connected to teaching.
The successful applicant will have experience and demonstrable expertise in the teaching of Business French at Third Level.
The candidate will report to the Head of Discipline and will work closely with colleagues in the department to deliver and develop the curriculum.
This role is for the specific purpose of filling a vacancy on a temporary basis pending the return of the postholder from authorised leave. Employment is not offered on an indefinite duration basis as the original postholder is expected to return. If the postholder does not return to work the post will be filled through open competition.
Context The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies is home to seven disciplines, including French. The School is the premier School of Modern Language Studies in Ireland and is ranked 57 th in the world in the QS Subject Rankings 2023.
The French Department has the oldest Chair of French in the world and counts amongst its alumni the Nobel Prize Winner Samuel Beckett. Qualifications • An excellent academic record.
• A PhD (or one near to completion) in the field of Business French; candidates in any area of French Studies with a demonstrable proven ability to teach French Business are also encouraged to apply.
• Native or near native ability in the French language.
